Babaji Mahavatar – Babaji’s Devotees

Babaji Mahavatar: The Descent of Eternity into Time is a devotional photograph book about Shri Bhagwan Babaji, better known as Haidakhan Baba, compiled by his devotees and published by the Haidakhandi Samaj Foundation. This second, expanded edition brings together colour photographs of Babaji, his ashram and temples, and quotations drawn from sacred texts and from his own words, rather than presenting a conventional biography or narrative account.

Within the tradition the book comes from, Babaji is regarded as a Mahavatar, a great incarnation associated with Lord Shiva who is said to appear at intervals to guide humanity through periods of spiritual crisis. Devotees trace this presence back to the nineteenth century as Haidakhan Wale Baba, and again to 1970, when he reappeared as a young man near a cave at Haidakhan in the Kumaon Himalayas. His teaching is summarised in the three words Truth, Simplicity and Love, alongside an emphasis on karma yoga, selfless service, and the repetition of the mantra Om Namah Shivay.

Rather than arguing a case for these claims, the book functions as a visual and devotional record for those already following Babaji or encountering him for the first time through his photographs, and this edition adds further temple images and material on Shri Muniraj Maharaj to the earlier printing. It sits alongside the Haidakhandi Samaj Foundation’s other publications as one of the more widely circulated English-language introductions to Babaji in book form.
