De vlucht van de Havik – Frank Herzen
Laurend van Buuren is een heel gewone jongen uit Den Bosch, in onze tijd. Hij heeft echter een heel ongewoon vliegtuig, de Havik, dat hij zelf gebouwd heeft en waarmee hij verre reizen kan maken en wonderlijke avonturen beleven. Reizen die overigens niemand gelooft en avonturen die niemand hem zal nadoen. Maar ja, kinderen worden toch al zelden geloofd en volwassenen zijn geen kinderen meer.
Op een van zijn reizen ontmoet Laurens Nostradamus, de beroemde toekomstvoorspeller. Hij komt Merlinus de Wijze tegen, die alleen in het verleden en de legende gelooft en Al-Ghazali die het elixer der Gelukzaligheid heeft uitgevonden en alles voor zichzelf wil houden. Heden, verleden en toekomst: Laurens komt er alles over te weten. Maar of hij er veel wijzer van wordt…?
Frank Herzen, van wie eerder bij Christofoor Mijn moeder was een rode vlam, De zoon van de Woordbouwer en De reis van de Zwarte Draeck verschenen, is er in zijn nieuwste jeugdboek De vlucht van de Havik opnieuw in geslaagd een boeiend thema – de verhouding heden, verleden en toekomst – op levendige en voor jonge lezers spannende wijze vorm te geven.
Recensie
Na een ruzie tussen zijn ouders over zijn bezoek aan de waarzegster op de kermis stapt de 14-jarige Laurens in zijn zelfgebouwde vliegtuig ‘De Havik’. Behalve zich geografisch te verplaatsen belandt hij ook in een andere tijd. Eerst komt hij in het Frankrijk van 1550 terecht, waar Nostradamus hem redt, later ontmoet hij Merlinus de Wijze (Merlijn) en Al (Mohammed) Ghazali. Via het 14e eeuwse Engeland waar de pest heerst, kan Laurens weer naar huis terugkeren, waar tussen zijn ouders alles weer goed is. Avonturen-fantasieverhaal rondom het thema tijd in heden, verleden en toekomst; of droomt Laurens? Dit ingewikkelde thema is verwerkt in een met vaart geschreven historisch avonturenverhaal. Ook astrologie, waarzeggerij e.d. spelen hierbij een rol. Taal en stijl zijn aangepast aan de persoon en tijd. Stevig en verzorgd boek. Op het kaft staat de jongen te jong afgebeeld.
